Mini Style: Toddler 4th of July Style Ideas

Toddlers can be adorably dressed and on theme for holidays, without being too over-the-top or campy. I’m not huge on literal interpretations of holiday style, but mama does love having a good general theme or color scheme to work with! Enter: 4th of July style and the obvious nod to the red, white and blue (no full flag motifs required).

It goes without saying these outfits could also work for similarly themed holidays; Brooklyn wore the top and shorts shown further down on Memorial Day, and its a great way to do Labor Day in late summer too!

Dress: Primark (Old) - similar style here; similar colors here / Sandals - Carters / Bracelet - Mama’s (Old)

This sweet striped dress with bumble bee and ladybug print is a Primark number that my son brought back for his little sis when he visited Spain. It was a little big / long on her last year, but this summer it fits absolutely perfectly, and is a strong contender for her 4th of July style! With the blue and white vertical stripes, the red piping on the sleeves, and the red ladybugs, this is a 4th worthy frock that doesn’t fly too close to the flag. With the addition of a tiny toddler purse and metallic sandals this look says, “meet me after the sun goes down—I’ll bring the fireworks”.

This square neck, ruffle cap sleeved top (below) that Brooklyn wore on Memorial Day is actually part of a set, from the limited edition Victoria Beckham x Target collection that launched in the spring of 2017.

Top: Victoria Beckham x Target short set (Old) - similar shorts set here; navy striped top here / Shorts: Old Navy / Shoes: Jordan 1 mid GT - similar / Headband: (Old) - similar / Sunnies: Carters

While it’s no longer available, you can find a simple navy & white or blue and white striped top for summer pretty much anywhere. I recently snagged this Breton style striped tee for Brooklyn from Old Navy.

The star print shorts are from Old Navy as well, and I’ve also seen star print shorts and overalls at Carter’s, so this is an easy look to duplicate! They key is to keep one of your patterns very simple and subtle, while letting the other pattern live out loud. This gives the outfit some balance and keeps it from screaming, “USA!”, but instead quietly nodding to the style story of the holiday.

Add sandals to your toddler’s tiny feet for a cute bbq moment, or ankle socks and sneakers for a day of running and play! Brooklyn wore this to the playground and it allowed her to move and run with total ease.
