Savvy Stylist: Fabulous Gown for a Formal Gala

When AB was down to the wire for choosing a dress to wear to a recent gala and asked me to help style her, I was more than happy to oblige. I love shopping and I love helping people choose items that they'll feel great wearing.

AB had a strict budget, and a couple of limitations on where she wanted to shop, but I was confident we'd be able to find something in one of the two stores. There was a fabulous selection of dresses at Macy's and she tried on several, but the choice came down to a demure and mature khaki green colored gown with a cinched waist and full circle skirt--so first lady-esque!; and this really youthful deep purple gown with ruching along the bodice, a dropped skirt, a very Victorian feeling 3-button lace panel in the back and a sexy surprise slit.

gown: Xscape (similar here) / nude pumps: Nine West / earrings: K. Staton Boutique (Baltimore) / bracelets: hodgepodge of pieces AB already owned

After a family and friends vote, we decided the purple was the option that better fit AB's style, even though both gowns looked phenomenal on her. I coached that metallic accessories would complement the slight sheen of the gown's fabric, and she finished with a nude peep-toe pump that she already owned. I wasn't able to be there to help her get dressed, but the finished look with AB's hair and makeup is GORG. I was floored when she sent me the photos, and so proud of my pick!
