Facials Newbie: Why I'm Convinced Facials Are a Necessary Part of Your Beauty Routine {Guest Post}

Earlier this month, while on vacation with Kim in Puerto Rico, I decided to indulge myself with a spa treatment. While looking over the services offered, the facials seemed so appealing that I figured this was the perfect time to get my first one. I admit I was a little anxious about the treatment, wondering: what if the esthetician messes up during the extractions? Luckily, I was quickly eased by the skillful esthetician; I have a problem with blackheads and she did indeed spend a good amount of time with extractions, but when she had finished, MY SKIN FELT AMAZING!!!!!! (The photo above is post-facial—my skin LOOKED unbelievably clear as well!)

After that one treatment, I am completely sold on the necessity of facials in one’s beauty care regimen. However there is one issue: funds. My budget at the moment will not allow for another expense; therefore I started a quest for the perfect at-home DIY facial regimen. I happen to already own a Huetiful hair steamer that comes with a facial attachment. So starting next week, I am going to begin steaming my face on a weekly basis.

To up the facial steam a notch, I am going do an herbal steam using dried herbs. I researched which herbs would be best for treating oily skin and have a nice short list from which to select: Lavender, Rosemary, Lemongrass, Lemon Balm, Peppermint, Sage, Witch Hazel and Chamomile.

In my next post, I will let you know which combination of herbs I decided on and share my new facial steaming regimen!

Have you tried an at-home facial steam? What was your experience?
