Nail Klub & Dresses with Modcloth

Though I hadn't had as much time in a while, I generally love experimenting with nail color and nail art. So I was super excited when

Modcloth

asked me to participate in their

Nail Klub and Dresses

Challenge!

Coordinating your nails and your summer dress might seem a little too matchy matchy, but I think it's a fantastic way to stand out (just

take a look

at how beautifully the Modcloth team paired custom nail art with these cocktail dresses)! You're guaranteed to look polished and totally original. As I scrolled through their massive

dress selection

, thinking about which one would work for me, there were a few maybes--but one stood way out: the

Watercolor Me Happy Dress

! First of all fit and flare dresses are oh so perfect for my shape, but I also loved all the bright colors--they scream summer! This just seems like a dress that's guaranteed to make one happy, no?

I also felt like this print was one I could easily emulate on my nails. With such a graphic print, it was something I could just have fun with, and the colors could just co-exist playfully without being perfect. I loosely interpreted the flowers and shapes, making my nails more about a simple white base, and then adding great color than anything else.

Double Duty Base & Top Coat

After adding my base coat, I put on one thick coat of Alpine Snow and let it dry thoroughly. Then, with an angled eyeshadow brush, I used the additional colors to add the flowers, and to swipe on swatches of brights in varying patterns (rinsing the brush with water in between). I wanted it to look almost like paint splatter. I let that dry thoroughly as well and then added a top coat.

How do you think they turned out?

I can see wearing this dress/nails combination for a great daytime event like a bridal or baby shower, brunch or an early dinner with the girls. And the nails could also be paired with boyfriend jeans, saucy sandals, a graphic tank and a statement necklace.
