How to Make Shorts Totally Office Appropriate | Restyle Your Closet

Shorts are the ultimate in casual cool but, like most things, the way they are styled can completely change the way they are viewed and for what events they are appropriate. You may be in an office environment where shorts are never okay. Ever. But if you're in a position where things are a bit more loose and it's okay to showcase your personal style, then you should totally give your shorts the office upgrade.

There are a few key points to remember when wearing shorts in the office:

You should probably skip denim (unless of course, it's a jeans or denim specific day). Look for the same dressier fabrics you would look for in a dress pant: cotton, linen, seersucker, etc.

Be mindful of length. The same rules that apply for the length of your skirts and dresses should apply to shorts--no shorter than mid thigh.

Keep the top of your body covered up so that there is a balance of the skin that's showing and the skin that isn't. If you're baring your legs in shorts, it's probably best to keep your arms and cleavage covered.

A blazer is always appropriate for bringing a professional vibe to otherwise casual pieces. Try one in a seasonal fabric or a modern cut that more playfully matches your shorts.

Wear simple, classic footwear, like a pump.

The reasons above are why the sample look works so perfectly.  The shorts are pleated and tailored, the blazer has a slim fit and the shirt provides full coverage up top.

She's having fun playing with neutral colors in a way that's interesting, but overall her look is very streamlined.

Does your office culture allow for you to wear shorts? If so, what's your favorite way to style them? I'd love to hear about it in the comments.
