Endless Summer in Florals by Carter’s // Toddler Style
We spent Labor Day Weekend, the last “official” weekend of summer, in Brooklyn, NY this year. It’s where Hubs is from (and how Brooklyn got her name!), so we wanted to spend some time with family before the weather turned. I had to let my girl show off with the outfits a little bit while in her namesake city, one of which being this bright, fresh, floral apron dress I got from Carter’s early on in the summer. I paired it with her Adidas to give it a more casual look for hanging out all day, and added bike shorts under her dress as I always do, so that she can move and jump and play easily even in a dress.
There’s something about these photos where she strikes me as such a big girl! She’s got this knowing, observant look happening, added to her long legs and long hair—and, I guess, the fact that I’m shooting her from below at the bottom of the steps and it’s giving that “hero shot” effect. Either way, it caught me off guard at first.
Thanks to hanging out with Dad, she’s already a Brooklyn girl at heart. Her favorite greeting for him now is, “Yo! Yo!”, and on the day we took these photos, as a noisy truck rode by she screamed “YOOOO!!!” as if to say, “stop making so much noise on my block!” LOL. It is so amazing to watch her grow! I’m afraid to blink for fear the rest of year two will go by too fast.
She didn’t get to wear this dress much over the summer, so for transitioning it to fall I’m envisioning adding a long sleeved top underneath and switching out the sneakers for a pair of little booties (love these at Old Navy); or even toughening up the girly vibe of the dress with a leather jacket (cute option here) and moto boots (she had this pair from Old Navy last year, and I’m thinking of buying them again in her new size). Want to try it for your toddler? This particular dress is sold out, but you can get one with a similar floral print here, and shop one with a similar look from flutter sleeves here!
