Kids' Clothing Exchange

Kids' Clothing Exchange is fast approaching. Held at Pine Valley Swim Club in White Marsh, MD from April 9 - 17th, this bi-annual event allows you to purchase quality merchandise at extremely budget friendly prices. It's a consignment sale (more detailed information here), so the items come from other parents like yourself, and you have the opportunity to sell items for a profit as well.

Consignor registration is now open for the spring/summer sale; and registering, pricing and tagging your items is even easier through the online system. Remember, consignors shop a special preview sale prior to the first day it opens to the public.

My son has gotten too old to shop Kids' Clothing Exchange, but I've both sold and scored some great pieces for him in the past. I would suggest taking time out to at least head over and browse the selection of items for sale for spring and summer. Warm weather is just around the corner!

Posh Event: Stylish Momma Event at Lettie Gooch Boutique

This past Friday, GG and I had the pleasure of attending the Stylish Momma Event at Lettie Gooch boutique in DC. The event was hosted by Bailey Vincent Clark of Makeover Momma and Tiffani of Accidental Chic, who are each as sweet and forthcoming as they are stylish. We had a great time talking with them about life, babies, blogging and our various interests--as well as sipping yummy white wine and devouring the sweetest cupcakes.

G and I were drawn to the beautiful print dresses and tops that Lettie Gooch has for spring, along with one-of-a-kind handbags and shoes, really gorgeous unique jewelry, and even luscious lip glosses. She snagged a sophisticated pair of chandelier earrings with pops of jewel tones; I picked up a shiny pink lipgloss and 70s inspired wine colored handbag.

Wonderful company, great clothing and accessories, and sparking style conversation made this a fantastic event, and we agree that we'll be visiting Lettie Gooch again very soon.

Stripes Story

As evidenced by recent purchases, I am currently coveting stripes. I’m attracted to them while shopping, in photos and live in person. I’m partial to horizontal stripes in light or neutral colors, loose styles and soft fabrics; but there are some bold stripes that have caught my attention as well. It's an easy trend to wear and is transitioning with the seasons from winter wool into spring dresses, skirts and blazers.

1. Revolve loose stripe tank –This tank looks comfy, airy and perfect for summer. I could see it over a bathing suit, with shorts or cargo pants

2. Top Shop pink striped burnout tee – The soft pink stripes and slight sheerness of the material make this tee casual without being too plain. Paired with jeans and a flat, this makes for the perfect Saturday afternoon shopping style.

3. Marc by Marc Jacobs Simone striped silk dress – This dress screams “FUN IN THE SUN!” It’s out of my price range, but how can I not be inspired by it? And, it reminds me of sherbet…

4. Aryn K. Stripe Blazer – This is a very smart blazer with its stripes, the piping on the pockets and the tapering at the waist. It could be used to break up an all white outfit with a bold colored shoe or a bag thrown in for additional contrast.

5. Donna Morgan Stripe Chiffon Dress – Who’s the prettiest little girl at the garden party? The one who wears this dress.

Premier Issue of Lucky Kids

Shopping and style publication, Lucky Magazine, included a new supplement with the April issue: the premier issue of Lucky Kids. A miniature version of the parent mag in every way, Lucky Kids is intended to provide moms with ideas and options to make their lives just a little easier. Though it has fewer pages than Lucky, it still features standard full color ads (that make me want to stop mid-read and buy every wonderfully styled item on all the insanely cute kids), the Lucky Breaks sweepstakes pages and Lucky’s signature tagging stickers; as well as follows the same editorial formula with “where to shop” and “great finds” style articles. My favorite feature is the “mini spy” which highlights miniature versions of adult trends like fabulous little trenches for girls.

The cover story, featuring Angie Harmon and two of her three daughters is an enjoyable read about a topic faced by many who are raising little people: the balance of parenthood with work, and making decisions on the best place to raise your children. The main editorial of this issue comes in the form of a sweet fairytale about two little (well-dressed) children and their fantasy world of trees.

I circled, stickered and folded several pages, but my favorite items--which have been added to my “to buy” list--are the genius reusable lunch baggies (alternative to plastic) and a great light chambray kids’ jacket from Crewcuts (J. Crew kids).

The next issue of Lucky Kids will go to print in September with lots of info for back-to-school. I’ll be looking forward to it. For more info, check out http://www.luckymag.com/kids.

Fashionable Adventures in DC

The homie MC and I have developed a lovely tradition of brunch and shopping for my birthday, so this past Sunday, I headed to the DC area where she joined me for brunch at Sequoia, followed by shopping on F Street. The former home of department store, Woodward & Lothrop, has been transformed into a block of ladies’ shopping including Zara, H&M and Forever 21, with American Apparel just across the street.

It was raining buckets, but since MC and I are of the die-hard “whether in rain, sleet or snow” variety of shopper, we soldiered on; though I complained a bit, MC’s parking savvy and my purse sized Jones New York umbrella made the outdoor portion of the expedition more bearable.

Our first stop was in Zara where I felt I looked fat in everything I tried on; but I blame the humidity in the dressing room which contributed to increased glistening and a disposition that was totally counter-conducive to sashaying in front of the mirror. So we moved along.

I fared better in H&M where my purchases included a really cute brown knit dress with leather accents, and a pair of tights in wide brown and black stripes.

Our final stop was in Forever 21. Forever 21 is already kind of a manic shopping experience because of the overwhelming amount of merchandise on the floor at any given time, but I’ve developed a knack for determining the layout of each store and how pieces are grouped. I met my match, however, in this location; poor lighting, escalators that led to other floors without clear methods of return to the main floor, and (the ultimate offense) mannequins draped in Hello Kitty wear that was nowhere to be found on the sales floor, were greatly frustrating nuances. I did manage to scoot out bearing a few pieces:

Fab stripe waterfall cardigan - Forever 21

Mine is in black and heather gray; I can wear it with leggings, boots and tee.

Slub Stripe sweater - Forever 21
My version of this sweater is white with black stripes, and will be a great off-the-shoulder look with skinny jeans and booties.

Threaded Teardrop Earrings - Forever 21
The plan is to pair these earrings with the dress from H&M.

Though this might not have been the most fruitful of retail excursions, my quality time with MC is always a blast. (Can’t wait for next year’s celebration, Chica!)

Birthday Treats

These are the delightful items I acquired over the birthday weekend--through a little shopping trip and from the people who love me. I couldn't photograph the best gift though: all the quality time with my mommy, son, cousins and besties. Birthday celebration 2011 = major epic success.

Pictured:
- polka dot pumps picked up at DSW (they will be perfect for spring!), new (pink) charm for the Pandora bracelet, Chloe scent, Escada "Magnetism" scent, a white merlot, a Sauvignon Blanc and gift cards for H&M, DSW and Borders.

My Favorite Day of the Year

Me at age 6. Chic Daughter? LOL
Today is my most favorite day of the year, a.k.a my birthday :). I'm off to the spa, a little lunch, and a visit to my favorite consignment shop (hopefully I'll have some scores to share with you guys). I'm so looking forward to celebrating with my family and friends, sipping bubbly and being pampered. Wishing everyone a fashionable Friday! xo

Great Find: Adidas Top Ten Hi at Nordstrom

Nordstrom is having a seasonal shoe clearance now in-store and online. I snagged these retro Adidas for the kid for less than $40. He has a birthday in April and they'll be a perfect sneaker for spring.

I preferred them in the green/black/white, but that color was sold out in his size. It's probably for the best as he's been on a royal blue kick lately anyway.

They also have amazing deals on mommy shoes like the Badgley Mischka 'Randall' Pump: a romantic d'orsay heel that comes in both a deep wine color and a sassy blue and is currently 40% off...

..and the Tory Burch 'Sophie' Wedge: a 4" calf-skin leopard print heel that's currently 35% off.

There are limited sizes, so my advice is that you point your browser in that direction ASAP to avoid missing out.

Happy Shopping!
