Cruises, Food and Shoes: Packing for a trip to NYC

I am headed to NYC this week for a party for my company's national clients--hosted by our national sales manager who works out of that office and, coincidentally, is amazingly fab. I like looking at her. I literally can't wait to see her outfit, especially the shoes, every time she comes into town for a meeting. "Oh...I'm just breezing in for a few hours in my Manolos. Don't mind me!" is what I imagine her to be saying. But I digress.  The event I’ve put together is a 3-hour sunset cruise around the NY harbor. It’s on a yacht, there will be delicious foods, a top shelf bar and a jazz trio. It’s simple and small (only about 30 guests) but it should be very sexy. Normally this manager plans everything on her own for her events, and this is the first time she’s allowed my department to do it for her (although it is, in fact, our job to do so) so I hope she is pleased!

I'll be staying over and working out of the NY office. I’m both excited and scared about this, because really—who do I think I am?! I've been to NY plenty of times for pleasure and with friends and family. But this is the first time I've been in a professional capacity where I am staying alone and am consequently going to be required to be 'NY travel savvy' (thanks to my friend Feesh for coining that). I know I will be fine, but I definitely have those 'fear of the unknown' nerves happening.

And the top concern on any girl's list when traveling to NYC: what to wear. I know that on Friday to the office I’m wearing a throwback strapless A-line red dress. Friends might remember it from such events as Brook & Kenya’s wedding and Feesh & Renald's wedding. I found it balled up in my closet a couple weeks ago and got it cleaned and it is now an everyday dress because I didn’t stop loving it while it was lost. I will wear it with a black cardi and GUESS black patent leather pumps with an animal print buckle (shown here). Party wear is a little trickier…I was thinking maybe the H&M sweater dress, similar to this one from Modcloth...

..and grey and black suede Jessica Simpson peep toe pumps, similar to these, also by Jessica Simpson (but mine have a less chunky heel)...
..that I just wore to an event here this past Saturday. Styled differently, it could be work appropriate, and its long sleeves are great since it will probably get cooler as the sun goes down. I'll be attending a football game at Columbia University on this Saturday and for that, I think my pink baby doll (ish) dress from Asos, leggings, flats and a complementary scarf.

Despite the work nerves, I am completely excited about this trip. I'm hoping to squeeze in a good hair straightening at the local Dominican salon as well as the tiniest bit of shopping. Fingers crossed.

Heart and Heart and Heart

Meet the Christian Louboutin Rolandzip 120 suede platform pump. She is femme fatale, rocker chick and dangerously chic all at once. Amazing.

The Look for Less: Stuart Weitzman Pump

This beautiful suede Stuart Weitzman ‘Stiltspump’ Pump is on sale at Nordstrom now for $199, down from its original $375 price tag (45% off). It’s a beautiful shoe, with its stacked heel and exposed platform. There’s also a black leather version. Heel height is approximately 4 ½” with a 1” platform.

This very similar Steve Madden ‘Disobey’ peep toe suede pump is currently on sale at Nordstrom for $58, down from the original $100 price tag (40% off). I personally adore the hot pink version but it also comes in taupe, black, and turquoise suede. The approximate heel height is 4 1/2” with a 3/4” platform.

The two shoes are very close in heel height and style. So which would you purchase? The higher end version that’s slightly more deeply discounted? Or the less expensive shoe with more options for color?
